Senate Resolution No. 5244

HONORING the United States Army upon the occasion
of celebrating its 243rd Anniversary
WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
significant milestones in the distinguished histories of its esteemed
entities; and
WHEREAS, The United States Army will celebrate its 243rd Anniversary
in 2018; and
WHEREAS, The Continental Army was formed in 1775 with the goal of
ending tyranny and winning freedom for the colonists in what soon became
the United States; and
WHEREAS, The proud heritage of the Continental Army is shared by all
United States Army units, which include Active, Guard, and Reserve
units; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's soldiers represent the bravest and finest men
and women of our great country; and
WHEREAS, These extraordinary soldiers dedicated themselves to the
Army values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor,
integrity, and personal courage; and
WHEREAS, Soldiers also follow the Soldier's Creed: to always place
the mission first, never accept defeat, never quit, and never leave a
fallen comrade; and
WHEREAS, The United States Army is a formidable fighting force, with
countless soldiers stationed around the world to honorably protect their
fellow Americans and American values; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the United States Army upon the occasion of celebrating its 243rd
Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Mark T. Esper, Secretary of the United States Army;
General Mark Milley, Chief of Staff of the United States Army; and Major
General Anthony P. German, Adjutant General of New York State.
