HONORING Elora Vargas upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar
Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES on April
26, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its
young citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and
accomplishments exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great
State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Elora Vargas
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar
Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES which was celebrated at its
Fifth Annual Awards Breakfast, on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Kuhl's
Highland House, Middletown, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious award recognizes outstanding high school
students for their accomplishments and/or performances in the arts,
including fine arts, theater, and music; and

WHEREAS, Elora Vargas has distinguished herself as a young woman of
superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and

WHEREAS, A senior at Middletown High School, Elora Vargas will be
attending Corning Community College in the fall in Corning, New York;
she plans on majoring in exercise science and minoring in art; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Elora Vargas is a member of the Girls Varsity
Lacrosse Team, Varsity Soccer, Sports Medicine Club and Bible Club; and

WHEREAS, Elora Vargas is an active member of Transformation Church,
competing in the church's annual youth convention where she advanced to
national competition through fine arts; and

WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for her classmates, Elora Vargas
has brought honor to her family, school, and community; and

WHEREAS, Elora Vargas may stand with pride in her achievements,
experiencing the satisfaction of her labors and the joy of her
accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as she
continues her education; and

WHEREAS, Elora Vargas represents the potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor
this young woman, recognizing her achievements and the promise of her
future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elora Vargas upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of

the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES, and to
wish her well in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elora Vargas.
