HONORING Max Von der Horst upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar
Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES on April
26, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its
young citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and
accomplishments exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great
State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Max Von der
Horst upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Senior
Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES which was celebrated
at its Fifth Annual Awards Breakfast, on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at
Kuhl's Highland House, Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award recognizes outstanding high school
students for their accomplishments and/or performances in the arts,
including fine arts, theater, and music; and
WHEREAS, Max Von der Horst has distinguished himself as a young man
of superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Warwick Valley High School, Max Von der Horst
will be attending the University of Southern California this fall to
study filmmaking; and he is currently involved with theatre arts through
the school as Student Director and works as Stage Manager for the Acting
Out Playhouse in Warwick, New York; and
WHEREAS, Max Von der Horst takes art classes at Mill Street Loft in
Poughkeepsie, and is a part of their chapter of the National Art Honors
Society, where he has spearheaded many art-related community service
activities; this past fall, he participated in the Senior Project class
at Mill Street Loft, and created 12 films in 12 weeks based upon Carl
Jung's concept of Individuation; and
WHEREAS, Max Von der Horst is also a member of the National Honor
Society through his high school; his artwork has been exhibited in
multiple shows and he has won several awards for his artistic
achievement; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates, Max Von der
Horst has brought honor to his family, school, and community; and
WHEREAS, Max Von der Horst may stand with pride in his achievements,
experiencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of his
accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as he
continues his education; and
WHEREAS, Max Von der Horst represents the potential inherent in our
most precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to
honor this young man, recognizing his achievements and the promise of
his future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Max Von der Horst upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster
BOCES, and to wish him well in his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Max Von der Horst.
