COMMEMORATING the 15th Anniversary of The Korean
New York Daily on May 29, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news and news of the larger world to their readers;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 15th Anniversary of The Korean New York Daily to be
celebrated at an event on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at its headquarters in
New York, New York; and
WHEREAS, For 15 years, The Korean New York Daily has grown with
Korean Americans as the backbone of its community; leading the way and
firmly rooted and positioned in Korean Society, it is known as the
largest local Korean newspaper in New York and has a wide circulation
which serves the residents of New York City, Nassau County and Northern
New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, On May 9, 2003, The Korean New York Daily was established
after it was converted from the New York News in commemoration of 100
years of Korean people immigrating to the United States; and
WHEREAS, Since its launch, The Korean New York Daily has been a
leader of the minority press, sharing the Korean American community's
prosperity and trials while becoming a pillar of the immigrant society;
and
WHEREAS, The daily paper is published in both New York City and New
Jersey, the world centers for politics, economics, culture and art; it
is a media outlet which is known for its prompt delivery of correct and
beneficial information in today's rapidly changing informative age; and
WHEREAS, The Korean New York Daily is comprised of two sections:
Section A which includes Hard News/Local News/International News
(Korea), Editorials and Classifieds; and Section B which consists of
Sports and Entertainment; the paper is widely read for its sound
judgment, content and its editorial quality; and
WHEREAS, The advertising department of The Korean New York Daily
provides a dynamic marketing strategy, offering the most effective means
of advertising to meet the interests of the readers and advertisers; and
WHEREAS, Koreans can also read about current events on The Korean
New York Daily's website, www.newyorkilbo.com; with over 60 media
sources from around the world, the website provides breaking news and
up-to-date information to its readers; and
WHEREAS, In addition to its paper and website, The Korean New York
Daily sponsors a Cultural Center in Flushing, Queens, which provides
educational and cultural services to the community; and an online and
offline Business Directory; and
WHEREAS, In all 50 states, Korean Americans have been working on
fulfilling their dreams, and for 15 years, The Korean New York Daily has
been the eyes and voice of these hard-working citizens in New York City
and New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Today, The Korean New York Daily continues to stand firm in
its commitment to providing the community with quality journalism, while
displaying dedication to community services; and
WHEREAS, The Korean New York Daily contributes to making New York
City a more diverse and vibrant community by fulfilling the mission of
the press for the development of Korean American society; and
WHEREAS, Our newspapers provide a tremendous service to citizens
across the State of New York by keeping them informed about current
events; the democracy of our State and Nation is strengthened by a
responsible citizenry which is actively engaged in reading and kept
abreast of news affecting their lives; and
WHEREAS, As The Korean New York Daily moves into the future, it
carries with it the legacy of a distinguished journalistic history and
an outstanding record of growth and achievement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 15th Anniversary of The Korean New York Daily; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Korean New York Daily.
