COMMENDING the Brooklyn Volunteer Lawyers Project
upon the occasion of hosting its Annual Gala, and
paying tribute to this year's honorees on May 22,
2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to individuals and organizations which have shown an
enduring commitment to improving the quality of life in their
communities and to enhancing their profession and fostering the highest
level of professionalism; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Brooklyn Volunteer Lawyers Project upon the occasion of
hosting its Annual Gala, and to pay tribute to this year's honorees on
Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Established by the Brooklyn Bar Association in 1990, the
Volunteer Lawyers Project is dedicated to ensuring that the legal system
is accessible to those who, because of special needs or the overwhelming
burdens of poverty, would not otherwise have their rights protected or
their voices heard; and

WHEREAS, This year's honorees include Jeffrey B. Gewirtz, Executive
Vice President of Business Affairs and Chief Legal and Compliance
Officer for Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment; and Jonathan Stoler,
Partner, Global Co-Practice Group Leader Labor and Employment Practice,
Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP; and

WHEREAS, These two gentlemen will be recognized for their
demonstrated and unwavering commitment to serving the public good and
equal justice; and

WHEREAS, Jeffrey B. Gewirtz and Jonathan Stoler have served as
tireless advocates for the less fortunate, strong voices for the
voiceless, and inspirations to their colleagues, to scores of
volunteers, and to countless others who labor in pursuit of equal access
to justice for all; and

WHEREAS, Jeffrey B. Gewirtz and Jonathan Stoler have truly
distinguished themselves through their exemplary careers and purposeful
lives of service to their community and their profession; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Brooklyn Volunteer Lawyers Project upon the occasion of

hosting its Annual Gala, and to pay tribute to this year's honorees on
May 22, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jeffrey B. Gewirtz, Jonathan Stoler, and the Brooklyn
Volunteer Lawyers Project.
