HONORING Terence P. O'Connor, Esq. upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of The
Daniel Mahoney Memorial Award by the Capital
District Trial Lawyers Association on June 14, 2018

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in recognizing its
esteemed residents who have distinguished themselves in their community
and their professions; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Terence P. O'Connor, Esq. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of The Daniel Mahoney Memorial Award by the Capital District
Trial Lawyers Association to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner on
Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the Italian American Community Center in
Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Each year, The Daniel Mahoney Memorial Award is presented
in memory of the founder of the Capital District Lawyer's Association to
an attorney who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and service to
his or her clients, the bar and profession, and to the perpetuation of
the work of the Shirt Sleeve Lawyer; Terence O'Connor is truly deserving
of this prestigious honor; and

WHEREAS, Terence O'Connor earned his bachelor's degree magna cum
laude from St. Lawrence University in 1980; while a student, he was
elected to both Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa, and studied
abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark; in 1983, he received his Juris Doctor
from the University of Notre Dame Law School; and

WHEREAS, In the next few years, Terence O'Connor was admitted to the
New York State Bar, the United States District Court Northern District
of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals and Circuit; more
recently, he was admitted to the Vermont State Bar and the United States
District Court District of Vermont; and

WHEREAS, Today, Terence O'Connor is a trial lawyer who defends
physicians, dentists, nurses, hospitals and nursing homes throughout New
York State and Vermont; over the course of his career, he has tried
upwards of 125 cases to verdict; he has also handled a wide variety of
other civil litigation matters, including cases involving Labor Law
violations, trucking accidents, motor vehicle accidents, products
liability and premises liability; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Terence O'Connor has been appointed by the
United States District Court for the Northern District of New York as a
mediator/arbitrator/early neutral evaluator; during the last decade, he
has mediated and arbitrated approximately 200 cases; and

WHEREAS, A devoted public servant, Terence O'Connor graciously
donates his time and energy to various worthy organizations such as the
Center for Disability Services; Siena College Board of Trustees; Albany

County Hospice, Wave Runner Program for Children of Cancer Patients; and
the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Boston Marathon and the Jimmy Fund; and

WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
profession, Terence O'Connor has been the recipient of numerous awards
and accolades including the Continuing Excellence Award, 2011
President's Award by the Albany County Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, Terence O'Connor has also been named one of America's Top
100 High Stakes Litigators, Attorney of the Year by OMS National
Insurance Company, Lawyer of the Year for both Medical Malpractice Law
and Product Liability Law by Best Lawyers, and was elected as a Fellow
of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers in 2015; and

WHEREAS, Terence O'Connor is AV rated Very High to Preeminent by
Martindale-Hubbell, and has been voted by his peers on an annual basis
as one of the Top 10 Upstate New York Attorneys recognized by Super
Lawyers Magazine; and

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the
great State of New York, are reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and careers to the service of others; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Terence P. O'Connor, Esq. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of The Daniel Mahoney Memorial Award by the Capital District
Trial Lawyers Association on June 14, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Terrence P. O'Connor, Esq.
