COMMENDING Cheryl A. Defone upon the occasion of
stepping down after 48 years of distinguished
service as Lowville Village Court Clerk

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who are devoted to the welfare of their community and its
citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Cheryl A. Defone upon the occasion of stepping down after 48
years of distinguished service as Lowville Village Court Clerk; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl A. Defone was born to Shirley and Francis Staie on
January 11, 1951, in Watertown, New York; in 1969, she graduated from
Lowville Academy in Lowville, New York; and

WHEREAS, From 1970-2018, Cheryl A. Defone has held the title of
Lowville Village Court Clerk; she is recognized as being the longest
tenured of any of the 1,150 active members of the New York Association
of Magistrates Court Clerks; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the Village, Cheryl A. Defone
worked for Dr. Silver for 19 years, and the Brookside Senior Living
Community from 1997-2018; and

WHEREAS, Now that she and her husband are both retired, Cheryl A.
Defone plans to spend more time with her family and staying physically
active, whether it is working out in the gym or tending to her flower
garden; when she has a quiet moment, she enjoys bird watching; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Richard V.
Defone; their two children, Richard (Laurie) and Lisa (Marcus); and
their four grandchildren, Michael, Jordan, Alexander, and Nicholas, all
of whom have shown her love and support and rejoice in her many
achievements; and

WHEREAS, In her capacity as Lowville Village Court Clerk, Cheryl A.
Defone served with loyalty, honor and distinction, was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in
her official acts; and

WHEREAS, A singular asset to all of the citizens she has served in
the community of the State of New York, Cheryl A. Defone's life and
career are a portrait of preeminence in public service, and present a
role model for all who aspire to a career in public service; now,
therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Cheryl A. Defone upon the occasion of her retirement after 48
years of distinguished service to the Village of Lowville, and to wish
her well in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Cheryl A. Defone.
