COMMENDING Nancy Curtin upon the occasion of her
retirement after more than 44 years of distinguished
service to the Port Washington Public Library

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Nancy
Curtin upon the occasion of her retirement after more than 44 years of
distinguished service to the Port Washington Public Library to be
celebrated with a party held in her honor on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at
the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club in Port Washington, New York; and

WHEREAS, In addition, residents of Port Washington will have an
opportunity to wish Nancy Curtin well at a public event/open house which
will be held in June of 2018 at the Library; and

WHEREAS, In January of 1974, Nancy Curtin began her long and
distinguished career with the Port Washington Public Library as a
Librarian Trainee; in May of 1976, she graduated from Library School;
and

WHEREAS, Nancy Curtin was appointed Children's Librarian in January
of 1977, and to the position of Assistant to the Director in November of
1988; and

WHEREAS, Six years later, Nancy Curtin assumed the title of Library
Director, the position from which she will officially retire in June of
2018; and

WHEREAS, In her official acts, Nancy Curtin was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; during
her tenure with the Port Washington Public Library, she earned the
admiration, esteem and affection of her colleagues; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Nancy Curtin upon the occasion of her retirement after more than
44 years of distinguished service to the Port Washington Public Library,
and to wish her continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nancy Curtin.
