COMMENDING the Downtown Schenectady Improvement
Corporation upon the occasion of celebrating its
40th Anniversary on August 16, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
business organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to
the welfare of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation upon the
occasion of its 40th Anniversary to be celebrated at a 40 & Fabulous
Summer Birthday Blast! on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the Schenectady
Armory Center in Schenectady, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC) is
a not-for-profit organization which provides supplemental services for
the property owners and businesses located within the boundaries of the
Downtown Special Assessment District (DSAD); and

WHEREAS, The DSIC was originally formed in 1977, as a parking
maintenance district; over two decades, later, downtown business leaders
worked with the City of Schenectady to expand the functions of the DSIC
to provide a broader focus on the revitalization of Downtown Schenectady
via cleaning, visual improvements, marketing and business development;
and

WHEREAS, Today, the DSIC cleans sidewalks, hangs over 380 flower
baskets and the Hometown Heroes Banner Program in the summer, and
decorates the downtown area with dozens of lights during the holidays;
and

WHEREAS, Throughout the year, the DSIC hosts many popular events
including Schenectady Restaurant Week, the Wing Walk, the Schenectady
Soup Stroll and Downtown Schenectady's City Hall-iday; and

WHEREAS, Residents and visitors can also find information on the
DSIC's comprehensive website, and find directions on its Downtown
Schenectady Visitor Guide and Map, and Outdoor wayfinding maps;
furthermore, individuals stay up-to-date on current events by reading
the weekly e-newsletter; and

WHEREAS, The success of the DSIC is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its Executive Director James J. Salengo and his staff, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the institution and the
community it serves; and

WHEREAS, For four decades, the DSIC has diligently worked to promote
Downtown Schenectady as a premier location for commerce, recreation and

living by enhancing, facilitating and supporting economic and cultural
growth; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation upon the
occasion of celebrating its 40th Anniversary on August 16, 2018; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to James J. Salengo, Executive Director, the Downtown
Schenectady Improvement Corporation.
