MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
October 22-26, 2018, as School Bus Safety Week in
the State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of National School Bus Safety Week

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official weeks that are set aside to increase awareness of concerns that
affect the lives of school children living in the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim October 22-26, 2018, as
School Bus Safety Week in the State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of National School Bus Safety Week; and

WHEREAS, Schools around the country will recognize 2018 School Bus
Safety Week, celebrating the theme: "My Driver - My Safety Hero!"; and

WHEREAS, Studies have proven that the most dangerous part of the
school bus ride for children is when they get on and off the bus; it is
important to remember to pay close attention to school buses when you
see them driving on the street and teach children how to be safe when
boarding and exiting the bus; and

WHEREAS, From winding country roads to busy city streets, school bus
drivers carry the most precious cargo, our children; and

WHEREAS, School bus drivers, mechanics and other school
transportation personnel are the safest and most qualified in the State;
they also care about the kids and the community; and

WHEREAS, School bus drivers know that parents want the peace of mind
which comes from trusting the person behind the wheel of the big yellow
bus; and

WHEREAS, School bus drivers volunteer for more training than any
other drivers in the State, and they are all required to pass an
extensive background check before they receive a license to drive a
school bus; and

WHEREAS, Getting kids to and from school safely and on schedule
makes bus drivers, mechanics and other transportation personnel an
integral part of our schools and our communities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim October 22-26, 2018, as
School Bus Safety Week in the State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of National School Bus Safety Week; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
