HONORING Kimberly L. Beaty upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the President's
Award of Distinction by the Buffalo Branch NAACP

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kimberly L. Beaty upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the President's Award of Distinction by the Buffalo Branch NAACP, to be
celebrated on Saturday, June 9, 2018; and

WHEREAS, A 1986 graduate of Canisius College, Kimberly L. Beaty is
retiring from the Buffalo Police Department in June 2018, after 31 years
of distinguished service to become Canisius College's Director of Public
Safety; and

WHEREAS, Kimberly L. Beaty has served as the Deputy Police
Commissioner of Operations and Homeland Security for the Buffalo Police
Department since July of 2014, making her the first female Deputy
Commissioner appointed in over eight years; and

WHEREAS, Prior to this most esteemed role, Kimberly L. Beaty served
as Chief of the city's "E" District, which encompasses the
Bailey/Kensington neighborhoods, the University at Buffalo, Canisius
College, and several medical facilities, schools and business districts;
and

WHEREAS, Kimberly L. Beaty's focus on neighborhood initiative-based
projects has been instrumental in helping communities address crime and
disorder problems in more collaborative ways; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary woman has also worked closely with staff
at the Erie County Law Enforcement Academy, serving as a consultant in
their efforts to promote problem solving strategies in community
policing and efforts to reduce racial profiling and biased policing; and

WHEREAS, A training officer at the Buffalo Police Training Academy
for nine years, Kimberly L. Beaty works as a facilitator for the Erie
County Law Enforcement Training Academy, focusing on the topic of Law
Enforcement and Diversity Training; and

WHEREAS, Kimberly L. Beaty also serves on the Erie County Law
Enforcement Board of Directors and the New York State Office of
Emergency and Interoperable Communication Board; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to her community, Kimberly L. Beaty is a
member of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, New York
State Women in Law Enforcement, the Afro-American Police Association of

Buffalo, New York, Inc., National Organization of Black Law Enforcement
Officers and the Erie County Law Enforcement Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Kimberly L. Beaty has
displayed throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Kimberly L. Beaty, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kimberly L. Beaty upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the President's Award of Distinction by the Buffalo Branch
NAACP; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kimberly L. Beaty.
