Senate Resolution No. 5525

COMMENDING Emery A. Perry upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Veterans
Advisory Committee on June 12, 2018
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Emery A.
Perry upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
the Veterans Advisory Committee to be celebrated at an event on Tuesday,
June 12, 2018, at the New York State Capitol in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Veterans Advisory Committee (VAC) was formed on
September 30, 2016, to unify all of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFWs)
Posts, American Legions, American Veterans (AMVETS) and other
veteran-based non-profit organizations in Southeast Queens, New York, to
gauge the pulse of its veterans community and oversee the VA St. Albans
Community Living Center; and
WHEREAS, Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Emery A. Perry graduated
from Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1961, Emery A. Perry enlisted in the United States Army
and proudly served his country as a member of the 82nd Airborne; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, Emery A. Perry
entered into the New York City Police Department in 1969, and was
assigned to the 79th Precinct; in 1989, he officially retired from the
Department's Crime Prevention Unit; and
WHEREAS, In 1975, Emery A. Perry earned his Bachelor of Science
degree in education magna cum laude from the University of
Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Cambria Heights Community for the past 46
years, Emery A. Perry is involved in several local organizations
including the Cambria Heights Civics Association, Alpha Phi Alpha Senior
Center, NYC Police Department Council of Retired Guardians, St. Albans
VAVS Living Center, Queens Veteran's Advisory Committee, Amvets Post
10-13, Inc. and Amvets Department of New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Emery A. Perry held the title of President of
the Cambria Heights Block Association, and was a member of the Cambria
Heights/Jamaica Linden Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, Emery A. Perry is also a faithful congregant of Sacred
Heart Church where he served as an usher and is a participant of The
Brothers-in-Christ; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Edna, their
daughter, Tonya, and grandson, Tahir, all of whom have shown him love
and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Emery A. Perry upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Veterans Advisory Committee on June 12, 2018; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Emery A. Perry.
