HONORING John Shaughnessy upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Orange
County Interscholastic Athletic Association as a
2018 Senior Scholar-Athlete

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its
young citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and
accomplishments exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great
State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John
Shaughnessy upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association as a 2018
Senior Scholar-Athlete; this momentous occasion was celebrated with a
Breakfast on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and

WHEREAS, Academically and athletically, John Shaughnessy has
distinguished himself as a young man of superlative ability, talent, and
maturity, establishing standards of excellence and achievement,
purposefulness of life, and responsibility rarely achieved in youthful
years; and

WHEREAS, A student at S.S. Seward Institute, John Shaughnessy has a
95.905 GPA and is Salutatorian of his class; he is a member of the
National Honor Society, Select Band, and serves as Class Treasurer; and

WHEREAS, John Shaughnessy is a member of the Ice Hockey Club and
captain of the Cross Country Team; he is the proud recipient of the New
York State Cross Country Sportsmanship Award; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, John Shaughnessy gives
tirelessly of his time and energies volunteering as a peer tutor and
with the Ecumenical Community Service Youth Group; he is also a member
of Saint Stephen's Church Parish Council; and

WHEREAS, John Shaughnessy plans to major in chemistry on an Army
ROTC scholarship at the University of Scranton where he will also play
hockey; and

WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates, John
Shaughnessy has brought honor to his family, school, and community; and

WHEREAS, John Shaughnessy may stand with pride in his achievements,
experiencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of his
accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as he
continues his education; and

WHEREAS, John Shaughnessy represents the potential inherent in our
most precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to
honor this young man, recognizing his achievements and the promise of
his future; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John Shaughnessy upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association as
a 2018 Senior Scholar-Athlete, and to wish him well in his future
endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John Shaughnessy.
