MOURNING the death of Geraldine E. DeAngelo,
family matriarch, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine E. DeAngelo of Binghamton, New York died on
Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the age of 81; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine "Gerry" Elizabeth Badger was born to Marie and
Frederick Badger on October 2, 1936, in Binghamton, New York; and
WHEREAS, For most of her life, Geraldine E. DeAngelo has been an
active and cherished member of her community; through the Neighborhood
Theater, she met her husband Geno, and they were married in 1957;
together, the couple raised their five children on the south side of
Binghamton; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine E. DeAngelo distinguished herself in her
profession and by her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of her community; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Geraldine E. DeAngelo worked with Catholic
Charities, and led the YWCA Encore Plus Program, funding mammograms for
women in need; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine E. DeAngelo was a great supporter of her
husband's career and ran two successful campaigns for his elected post
of Sheriff of Broome County from 1990-1998; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine E. DeAngelo's commitment to excellence, and her
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the community in which she lived, worked and
played, Geraldine E. DeAngelo served on numerous boards and community
service initiatives; and
WHEREAS, A woman of many passions and interests, Geraldine E.
DeAngelo liked to stay fit by swimming, skiing and playing golf; she
lovingly tended to her gardens, relished a lively discussion about
politics, and was a history buff; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine E. DeAngelo was a long-standing member of the
Wine Society and often hosted parties in her home; she traveled with her
friends, organized trips for clubs and enjoyed watching the latest
Broadway show and exploring the museums of New York City; and
WHEREAS, An avid reader, Geraldine E. DeAngelo was an active member
of the Friends of the Library Association, and was a faithful congregant
of Tabernacle United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband of 43
years, Geno DeAngelo, and her son, Geno F. DeAngelo, Geraldine E.
DeAngelo is survived by her four children, Christopher DeAngelo, Phillip
(Elizabeth) DeAngelo, Linda (Mikel) Lidell, and Amy (John Ruotolo)
DeAngelo; one daughter-in-law, Karen DeAngelo; 12 grandchildren,
Christopher, Deanna, Michael, Scott, Cara, Gina, Marcus, Geno, Rocco,
Gianni, Nicholas and William; three great-grandchildren, Brady, Jake and
Giovani; her brother, Frederick, his wife, Jacqueline; and many other
family members and friends who will long cherish her memory; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine E. DeAngelo truly loved the good things in life,
most especially her beloved family; she will always be remembered for
her generous spirit, quick wit and zest for life; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Geraldine E. DeAngelo leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Geraldine E. DeAngelo, family matriarch,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Geraldine E. DeAngelo.
