CONGRATULATING the Goshen High School Mock Trial
Team upon the occasion of capturing the 2017-2018
New York State Trial Tournament Championship

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and
pay tribute to those young people who have inspired and brought pride to
our majestic Empire State by achieving outstanding success in
educational competition; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Goshen High School Mock Trial Team upon the occasion of
capturing the 2017-2018 New York State Trial Tournament Championship;
and

WHEREAS, The New York State High School Mock Trial Tournament, one
of the largest in the country, has been administered by the Law, Youth
and Citizenship Committee of the New York State Bar Association since
1982; and

WHEREAS, The Goshen High School Mock Trial Team defeated Brooklyn
Technical High School in an intense competition held at the James T.
Foley Federal Courthouse in Albany, New York; it was Goshen High
School's fourth year in the semi-finals and its first time in the
finals; and

WHEREAS, Over the course of the two-day tournament, eight teams,
representing the regional winners from throughout the state, argued the
fictional criminal case of People v. Carson Conners; The Honorable Mae
D'Agostino presided over the final round of competition on Tuesday, May
15, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The remarkable talent displayed by this team is due in
great part to the efforts of Faculty Adviser of 20 years, Robert
Karchawer and Attorney Coach Mark D. Stern, skilled and inspirational
tutors, respected for their ability to develop potential into
excellence; and

WHEREAS, The Goshen High School Mock Trial Team's overall record is
outstanding, winning 15 of the last 16 county contests, and the team
members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large; and

WHEREAS, Adviser Robert Karchawer and Coach Mark D. Stern have done
a superb job in guiding, molding and inspiring these young debaters
toward their goals; and

WHEREAS, The Goshen High School Mock Trial Team has proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting
favorably on their school; and

WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose,
these scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their

accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges,
understanding and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided
by their teachers, coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Goshen High School Mock Trial Team:
Jessica Bailey, Rachel Blustein, Arrington Brendle, Kareena Chhabra,
Zachary Constantine, Giannamarie Diaz, Michael Ehling, Liam Higgins,
Sara Higgins, Caitlin Hough, Aleena Jacob, Sydney Jessup, Olivia
Klugman, Ava Kunis, Maggie Larsen, James Lindeman, Anya Malhotra,
Domenico Pasquini, Jay Jung, Nazya Ahmed, Fattum Abbad, Ashley Rivera,
Robert Siracuse and Robert Winslow; Faculty Adviser Robert Karchawer;
and Attorney Coach Mark D. Stern; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Goshen High School Mock Trial Team,
Faculty Adviser Robert Karchawer, and Attorney Coach Mark D. Stern.
