COMMENDING By-Ways and Hedges Youth for Christ
Ministry, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 21st
Annual Unity Walk on August 4, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those spiritual institutions of true purpose and high
achievement whose exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly
demonstrate an enduring pursuit of excellence in the education of the
youth of this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend By-Ways
and Hedges Youth for Christ Ministry, Inc. in conjunction with the NYPD,
upon the occasion of hosting its 21st Annual Unity Walk of Brooklyn on
Saturday, August 4, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1989 by Reverend Dr. Terry Lee, By-Ways and
Hedges Youth for Christ Ministry, Inc. has over the years evolved into
an information station, a place of refuge for the hungry and needy, and
a resource center for all of its surrounding communities; and

WHEREAS, The goal of the By-Ways and Hedges Youth for Christ
Ministry is to foster peace, promote harmony, effect change and build
healthier, educated, productive communities; it focuses on its youth,
preparing them to become better men and women of tomorrow, as well as
instilling Godly morals and self-esteem, challenging them to reach for
greatness and excellence; and

WHEREAS, The Unity Walk is meant to strengthen and empower its
communities, improve the relationship between the New York City Police
and the local community, showcase Brooklyn's diversity, and provide a
forum to address community issues and concerns; the theme for this
year's Unity Walk is "Overcome Gun Violence with Understanding, Respect,
and Unity"; and

WHEREAS, Unity Walk features live performances, special guests,
amusement rides, Kids Fest, Health Fair, and more; participants include
featured artists, elected officials, NYPD, NYFD, the Armed Forces,
healthcare providers, educators, local business owners, and community
leaders; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Terry Lee truly believes that "although we may
have different customs and culture, we share similar concerns relative
to our community and prosperity. We all want peace, respect, and an
opportunity to succeed which is what Unity Walk exudes while we learn
more about each other and hone in on our common interests"; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its 21-year history, Unity Walk has brought
millions of Brooklyn residents and visitors together to revel in the
beauty of the "Great Borough" and to foster peace amongst its residents;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a

long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned our
recognition and applause; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend By-Ways and Hedges Youth for Christ Ministry, Inc. upon the
occasion of hosting its 21st Annual Unity Walk on August 4, 2018; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Reverend Dr. Terry Lee, President, By-Ways and Hedges
Youth for Christ Ministry, Inc.
