COMMENDING Firefighter Richard "Dick" Sabin upon
the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after 60 years of dedicated service to
the Tupper Lake Fire Department on September 10,
2016
WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout
the Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the
arduous field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter
Richard "Dick" Sabin upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after 60 years of dedicated service to the Tupper Lake Fire
Department, to be celebrated at a special dinner held in his honor on
Saturday, September 10, 2016; and
WHEREAS, On September 10, 1956, Richard "Dick" Sabin joined the
Tupper Lake Fire Department; throughout his six decade career with the
Department, he has held numerous leadership positions including
Lieutenant, Captain, President, 2nd and 1st Fire Chief; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Richard "Dick" Sabin held the esteemed title
of Fire Chief for two terms and served as the County Deputy Coordinator
for numerous years; this dedicated public servant was also the
department delegate to the advisory board and a vital member of the
County Chiefs Association; and
WHEREAS, Always eager to perfect his skills and enhance his
knowledge, Richard "Dick" Sabin successfully completed every class that
the Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC) offered; and
WHEREAS, Since 1956, Richard "Dick" Sabin has been a steadfast and
committed member of the Tupper Lake Fire Department, attending an
average of 98 percent of the department calls, as well as all Department
activities; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife Theresa
"Tootsie", and his three treasured daughters, Laura, Donna, and
Michelle, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only
provide the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other
activities of great benefit and importance to the communities they
serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
Richard "Dick" Sabin is such a firefighter; throughout 60 years of
devoted service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond
the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Richard "Dick" Sabin for 60 years of distinguished
service; and be it further
RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Richard "Dick" Sabin.
