Senate Resolution No. 5769

MOURNING the death of Timothy J. Bohen, dedicated
citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Timothy J. Bohen, a United States Postal Service executive,
passed away of Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the age of 69; and
WHEREAS, A South Buffalo native, Timothy J. Bohen graduated from
both Canisius High School and Canisius College; he went on to earn a
master's degree in Business Administration from the University of
Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, He then joined the U.S. Postal Service, where he held
various management positions throughout Western New York after a few
years of delivering mail; he was transferred to the postal headquarters
in Washington in 1977, where he held the position of systems analyst;
and
WHEREAS, Timothy J. Bohen was later promoted to information center
manager, which allowed him to travel the country and train managers on
how to integrate computer systems into their postal systems; in 1985, he
and his family moved to East Aurora so he could serve as the postmaster;
he moved to Boston shortly thereafter, where he worked as the Postal
Service director of marketing; and
WHEREAS, While in Boston, Timothy J. Bohen oversaw the rollout of
the priority mail campaign, which was later implemented on a national
level; he returned to Western New York as a postal operations manager,
where he supervised large post offices from Niagara Falls to Ithaca; and
WHEREAS, Timothy J. Bohen created a program called "Rewarding
Performance" aimed at training postal managers to value their employees;
this was one of his proudest professional accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Timothy J. Bohen distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Timothy J. Bohen is survived by his sons, Tim and Brian
Bohen; his wife, the former Donna McIntyre; another son, Brian; a
daughter, Kate Maldonado; a brother, Patrick; seven sisters, Susan
Curran, Sheila Cannon, Catherine Comerford, Colleen Bohen, Maureen
Fahey, Jeanne Simard and Mollie Walsh; and four grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Timothy J. Bohen leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Timothy J. Bohen, dedicated citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Timothy J. Bohen.
