MOURNING the death of Raymond Gordon,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Raymond Gordon of Queensbury, New York, died on Tuesday,
July 26, 2016, at the age of 69; and

WHEREAS, Born August 13, 1946, in Glens Falls, Raymond Gordon was
the son of Raymond H. and Winifred "Jane" (Leggett) Gordon; and

WHEREAS, A 1964 graduate of Whitehall Central School, Raymond Gordon
continued his education at Adirondack Community College and Castleton
University in Castleton, Vermont; and

WHEREAS, On August 11, 1973, Raymond Gordon married Mary Murray at
St. Joseph's Church in Fort Edward; the couple spent 43 wonderful years
together; and

WHEREAS, Raymond Gordon distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and

WHEREAS, A 34-year Business and Marketing educator at Fort Ann
Central School, Raymond Gordon was a dedicated member of the Queensbury
School Board, spending nearly three decades on the board and serving as
its president from 2010 through June of 2016; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unremitting commitment to the students
of the Fort Ann Central School District, Raymond Gordon was a true
mentor and friend to all; he was instrumental in developing district
policies regarding instruction, finances and student management; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Raymond Gordon helped establish policies, set
educational goals, evaluate programs and develop budgets for Queensbury
schools; his efforts ensured countless opportunities for students to
explore their passions in academics, athletics and the fine and
performing arts; he remained a tireless advocate for students even as
learning standards, instructional technology, and state and federal
priorities changed dramatically; and

WHEREAS, Raymond Gordon's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, A communicant at Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation,
Raymond Gordon also served as president and vice president of the
Adirondack Area School Boards Association, and was a member of the Tri
County United Way and Rotary International; and


WHEREAS, Raymond Gordon had many hobbies which included annual trips
to Las Vegas, his part time employment at the Holiday Inn in Lake George
as the Box Office Manager of the Dinner Theater, and playing Hearts and
Mexican Dominos with many special friends; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents and his mother-in-law,
Christine, Raymond Gordon is survived by those who loved him most: his
devoted loving wife, Mary; his two brothers, Bill (Nancy) and Jay
(Lori); his cousins, Betty and Marshall's eight kids; several nieces,
nephews, and cousins; along with his very close friends, Charlie,
Gloria, Jack and Jane; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Raymond Gordon leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Raymond Gordon, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Raymond Gordon.
