COMMENDING Margaret M. Stanton, Esq. upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association on June 22,
2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and
energies to the service of their community and profession, participating
in civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Margaret M. Stanton, Esq. upon the occasion of her designation
for special recognition by the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association to be
celebrated at its Annual Dinner Dance on Friday, June 22, 2018, at the
Belevedere Club at Casa Belevedere in Staten Island, New York; and
WHEREAS, Margaret Mary Stanton was born to Harold and Carol Stanton
in Camp LeJune, North Carolina; as a child, she lived in Japan for three
years before moving to Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Margaret M. Stanton earned her Bachelor of Arts degree
magna cum laude in 1977 from Brooklyn College; she furthered her
education by obtaining her Juris Doctorate from St. John's University
School of Law in 1980, and her Certificate in International Legal
Studies from the University of the Pacific, School of Law in conjunction
with the University of Salzburg in 1979; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, Margaret M. Stanton was admitted to the Bar in the
State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Department; she was
admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Southern and
Eastern Districts, and the United States Supreme Court; and
WHEREAS, Margaret M. Stanton began her long and distinguished career
as an associate in a firm in Freeport, New York; in 1982, she joined the
firm of Baratta & Goldstein, with offices in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Five years later, Margaret M. Stanton opened her own
general practice law firm in Brooklyn; from 2000-2015, she and Rosa
Pannitto worked together as partners in the firm as Stanton and
Pannitto; today, Margaret M. Stanton focuses on Family and Matrimonial
law, Real Estate and Civil Litigation, and private adoptions; and
WHEREAS, Committed to the advancement of adoption, Margaret M.
Stanton has lectured on private placement adoption law for the Richmond
County Bar Association, the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association, and Staten
Island Women's Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, Margaret M. Stanton has been an active participant of
various Bar Associations including the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association,
Brooklyn Women's Bar Association, Colombian Lawyers Second Department
and Staten Island Women's Bar Association; as a member of the Bay Ridge
Lawyers Association, she has served as a chairperson on various
committees, on its Board of Directors, and, this year, as President; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, Margaret M. Stanton's firm was the recipient of
the Successful and Effective Professional Award by the National
Federation of Italian American Societies; she was also named one of 2018
Power Women in Business; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her son, Austin James Stanton,
who has shown her love and support and rejoices in her many
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Margaret M. Stanton has
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Margaret M. Stanton, Esq. upon the occasion of her designation
for special recognition by the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association on June 22,
2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Margaret M. Stanton, Esq.
