COMMENDING the India Association of Long Island
upon the occasion of celebrating its 40th
Anniversary on June 30, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those
organizations which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of
cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of
New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the India Association of Long Island upon the occasion of its
40th Anniversary to be celebrated at a Gala Luncheon on Saturday, June
30, 2018, at Leonard's Palazzo in Great Neck, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition to commemorating its 40th Anniversary, the
India Association of Long Island (IALI) will honor highly distinguished
Indian Americans for their accomplishments in various fields such as
medicine, education, technology, business and community service; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1978, the IALI is a non-political,
non-profit, cultural and secular community organization which represents
and promotes the heritage of the people from the Indian sub-continent
who now live on Long Island and its vicinity; and
WHEREAS, For four decades, the IALI has diligently worked to
celebrate the culture and heritage of India through programs and
educational and other activities which promote a better understanding of
this nation's diversity and its rich traditions among the
Indian-American population and the larger community of Long Island; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, the IALI acquired its own building for the use of
various programs for its members and the community; and
WHEREAS, The IALI organizes year-round events like the Valentine's
Day Dinner and Dance, the Spring Festival of Colors-Holi, India Fest and
Diwali, the Festival of Lights in the Fall, and the summer picnic; and
WHEREAS, The members of the IALI collect food donations, and engage
in various fundraising events to benefit numerous organizations; and
WHEREAS, With over 2,000 members, IALI is the largest and fastest
growing Indian organization on Long Island; and
WHEREAS, The success of the IALI is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its President Gunjan Rastogi, and her staff, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the India Association of Long Island upon the occasion of
celebrating its 40th Anniversary on June 30, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gunjan Rastogi, President, India Association of Long
Island.
