CONGRATULATING Alexandria Payne upon the occasion
of winning the Pentathlon in the 2018 NYSPHAA Girls
Outdoor Track & Field Championship

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive athletics can be
achieved only through rigorous practice, solid teamwork, and a dedicated
coaching staff; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our midst, who, by achieving outstanding
success in athletic competition, have inspired and brought great pride
to their school district and community; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and by
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Alexandria Payne, a senior from Jamesville-DeWitt High
School, upon the occasion of winning the Pentathlon in the 2018 NYSPHAA
Girls Outdoor Track & Field Championship; and

WHEREAS, On June 8-9, 2018, Alexandria Payne competed in five track
and field events at the NYSPHAA State championship held at Cicero-North
Syracuse High School; and

WHEREAS, Alexandria Payne won her first Pentathlon event, completing
the 100-meter hurdles in 14.65 seconds; Alexandria also came in third
and seventh respectively in her next two events, jumping 5-feet-four and
a quarter inches in the high jump and throwing 30-feet-11 and three
quarters inches in the shot put; and

WHEREAS, On the second day of the state competition, Alexandria
Payne came in third in the long jump at 17-feet-0 and three quarters
inches, and finished fourth in her final event, running the 800-meter
race in 2:25.73 seconds; and

WHEREAS, After the two days of competition, Alexandria Payne was
named the overall winner of the Pentathlon in the NYSPHAA championship;
Alexandria also set a Section III record in the process by amassing
3,513 points; and

WHEREAS, For her stellar performances, Alexandria Payne was also
named the New York State Federation Champion, meaning that she is the
top Pentathlon athlete in the entire state, out of all the public
schools (both divisions), private schools, and city schools; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent, and drive to win, displayed by
Alexandria Payne is due in great part to the efforts of Head Coaches Jim
Lawton and Michael Acchione, as well as Assistant Coaches William

Leberman, Pat Gillette, and Emily Rowles, who are well-respected leaders
for their ability to develop potential into excellence; and

WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, Alexandria Payne proved to
be an unbeatable combination of talent, skill and dedication throughout
the entire season; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Alexandria Payne upon the occasion of winning the
Pentathlon in the 2018 NYSPHAA Girls Outdoor Track & Field Championship;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alexandria Payne and the aforementioned coaches.
