Senate Resolution No. 5845

CONGRATULATING the Massapequa Boys Varsity
Baseball Team upon the occasion of capturing the
NYSPHSAA Class AA State Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive team sports can be
achieved only through rigorous training, mental and physical discipline,
teamwork and a dedicated coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our community, who by achieving outstanding
success in athletic competitions, have inspired and brought great pride
to their school district and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Massapequa Boys Varsity Baseball Team upon the occasion
of capturing the NYSPHSAA Class AA State Championship; and
WHEREAS, Before advancing to the state finals, the Massapequa Boys
Varsity Baseball Team won the NYSPHSAA Class AA Semifinal on June 8,
2018, at Union-Endicott High School with a 5-1 win over Horseheads; and
WHEREAS, On June 8, 2018, at Binghamton University, the Massapequa
Boys Varsity Baseball Team faced off against Baldwinsville High School,
taking home the NYSPHSAA Class AA Championship with a 10-1 victory; the
exciting win secured the Massapequa Boys Varsity Baseball Team their
second Class AA State Championship title; and
WHEREAS, The Massapequa Boys Varsity Baseball Team previously won
the NYSPHSAA Class AA State Championship title in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the outstanding players of
the Massapequa Boys Varsity Baseball Team proved to be a terrific
combination of talent, posting a spectacular overall season record of
22-6; and
WHEREAS, No team can succeed without talent throughout its entire
roster, as is the case with the Massapequa Boys Varsity Baseball Team of
Gregg Capone, Johnny Castagnozzi, Nick Collins, Bobby Conlon, Aidan
Cooney, Philip Cottone, Dylan DeGiovanni, Christian DeNave, Chris
DeSousa, Anthony Faldetta, Kenny Galvin, Mike Grisanti, Derek Haag,
Travis Honeyman, Wade Kelly, David Letzter, Chris Mantione, Daniel
Meany, Miguel Montesdeoca, Mike Moreno, Connor O'Rourke, Andrew Primm,
Chris Prystupa, Nick Schwartz, Danny Wolf, and James Zupo; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by the Massapequa Boys
Varsity Baseball Team is due in great part to the efforts of Coaches Tom
Sheedy and Chris Cafiero who are both skilled and inspirational mentors,
respected for their ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Coach Tom Sheedy and Coach Chris Cafiero did a superb job
in guiding, molding and inspiring the members of the Massapequa Boys
Varsity Baseball Team toward their goals; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Massapequa Boys Varsity Baseball Team upon the occasion
of capturing the NYSPHSAA Class AA State Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the aforementioned players and coaches of the Massapequa
Boys Varsity Baseball Team.
