COMMENDING the Big and Little Skills Academy upon
the occasion of hosting its Annual Dribble Against
Cancer event and paying tribute to its numerous
volunteers
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations, individuals, and events which devote themselves to the
welfare of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Big and Little Skills Academy upon the occasion of hosting
its Annual Dribble Against Cancer event and to pay tribute to its
numerous volunteers; and
WHEREAS, Established in 2015, Dribble Against Cancer is a two-day
event dedicated to providing financial resources to leading
organizations in the fight against pediatric cancer; this year's
beneficiaries are Friends of Karen, the Children's Brain Tumor Project,
and the Big and Little Skills Academy; and
WHEREAS, Founder Jamael Lynch has combined his love for basketball,
youth and service to produce an exciting game featuring four honorees, a
gold carpet, a half-time show, giveaways and more; each year, more than
400 people attend this exciting event; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, June 16, 2018, the Celebrity Game will be held
at Uncommon Charter High School; the game will feature celebrities who
wish to raise awareness for pediatric cancer and the importance of
holistic health; and
WHEREAS, The next day, June 17, 2018, the one-mile Dribble-a-thon
will begin at Tillary Park in Brooklyn; from there, young people will
dribble their basketballs along the Brooklyn Bridge while friends and
family dribble in solidarity or hold signs raising awareness for
pediatric cancer, the leading cause of death among children, post
infancy; and
WHEREAS, The Dribble-a-thon ends at Brooklyn Bridge Park's Pier 2,
where youth participate in basketball, yoga and nutrition workshops led
by top instructors of the Big and Little Skills Academy; there will also
be music, healthy foods and giveaways, all in an effort to promote
holistic health and to raise funds towards research, treatment and
ultimately a cure for pediatric cancer; and
WHEREAS, More than just a fundraiser, the Dribble-a-thon is truly a
life changing experience; every person in the community has a chance to
celebrate, remember, and fight back; in addition, participation in the
event gives individuals and organizations the power to help accelerate
the advancement toward a future where cancer does not take the lives of
friends and family; and
WHEREAS, The success of Dribble Against Cancer is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its volunteers and participants, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Dribble Against Cancer
and to the enthusiastic community volunteers who have made this
monumental event a sparkling success for the last three years; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Big and Little Skills Academy upon the occasion of hosting
its Annual Dribble Against Cancer event and to pay tribute to its
numerous volunteers; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Big and Little Skills Academy.
