HONORING 1st Lieutenant Victor Prato upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a Purple
Heart
WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in honoring its
brave men and women who have distinguished themselves in their honorable
service to their country; and
WHEREAS, 1st Lieutenant Victor Prato will be honored on June 30,
2018, upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Purple
Heart, after being injured while leading his Platoon during a mission in
Kandahar, Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, 1st Lieutenant Victor Prato is a graduate of Somers High
School; he also graduated from Princeton University, where he was a
member of the football team and ROTC program; and
WHEREAS, 1st Lieutenant Victor Prato was in his second year of
honorable service in the United States Army when he was deployed with
the 82nd Airborne Division to Afghanistan in support of Operation
Freedom's Sentinel; and
WHEREAS, On November 13, 2017, his first week as Platoon leader, 1st
Lieutenant Victor Prato and four members of his convoy were completing a
routine patrol when a bomb struck their vehicle; and
WHEREAS, 1st Lieutenant Victor Prato suffered multiple soft tissue
injuries and recovered at Walter Reed National Medical Center, where
President Donald Trump personally presented him with the Purple Heart;
and
WHEREAS, 1st Lieutenant Victor Prato has inspired countless others
through his honorable service, strength, and perseverance; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor 1st Lieutenant Victor Prato upon the occasion of receiving a
Purple Heart, and to thank him for his service to his country; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to 1st Lieutenant Victor Prato.
