COMMENDING The Honorable Barry D. Kramer upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who would devote their life's work
and purpose to public service, contributing to the efficiency of the
judicial process while guarding over the welfare of the citizens and
communities of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, From time to time society calls upon these outstanding
members to be recognized for their valued contributions, publicly
acknowledging their leadership, commitment and selfless contributions in
enhancing the quality of life in their community; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The
Honorable Barry D. Kramer upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, Barry D. Kramer served as Schenectady County Surrogate's
Court Judge from 1993 to 2009; for most of this time, he was also a
full-time Acting Supreme Court Justice and joined the Supreme Court in
2010; and

WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Judge Barry D. Kramer has
helped countless families concerning cases of unclaimed property of the
deceased without wills as well as adoptions; and

WHEREAS, Throughout a life and career of purposeful endeavor, Judge
Barry D. Kramer has remained true to his commitment, serving family and
community, as well as the law; his contributions and accomplishments
have brought great benefit and positive influence to bear upon the
course of jurisprudence and the quality of life for others; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his civic service, Barry D. Kramer was an
All-American, and the second leading scorer in the nation in Division
One college basketball in 1963; he was the first-round draft choice in
the NBA of the San Francisco Warriors, now the Golden State Warriors,
and later played guard for the New York Knicks; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Honorable Barry D. Kramer upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Barry D. Kramer.
