HONORING David and Carol Grand upon the occasion
of their designation as recipients of the Pillars of
the Community Award by the Sidney Albert Albany
Jewish Community Center
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors,
and community service are an example and inspiration to their
colleagues, friends, family, and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
David and Carol Grand upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Pillars of the Community Award by the Sidney Albert
Albany Jewish Community Center, to be celebrated on Sunday, April 30,
2017; and
WHEREAS, Each year, this prestigious awards ceremony recognizes
individuals for their contributions to the Center and the Jewish
community-at-large by acting as moral pillars and dispensers of wisdom
and advice, providing continued service and leadership, and acting
generously in the spirit of Tzedakah; and
WHEREAS, Widely known for their extraordinary dedication to Israel
and the local community, David and Carol Grand's philanthropic and
leadership endeavors continue to inspire all of those who are lucky
enough to know them; and
WHEREAS, Both born and raised in Albany, New York, David and Carol
Grand have been married for 52 years; and
WHEREAS, David Grand received his BBA in accounting from Siena
College and attended the Amos Tuck Corporate Strategic Planning
Executive Program; he was a member of the American Institute of
Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified
Public Accountants; and
WHEREAS, A Middle Market Assurance partner, David Grand spent his
illustrious career servicing business clients in the Albany office of
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) and its' predecessors, Coopers &
Lybrand and Shaye, Lutz, Schwartz & King; he retired on July 1, 2003,
and has since been providing general business consulting services to
local companies; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to the
community, David Grand was an active member of several business,
community and charitable organizations including, the Albany Chapter of
the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Daughters of Sarah Senior Community,
Congregation Ohav Sholom, the Albany Jewish Community Center and Ibis
Friends of Veterans; and
WHEREAS, Carol Grand graduated from Hudson Valley Community College
School of Dental Hygiene; as she and David began their family, Carol
worked part-time as a Dental Hygienist while devoting herself to
building a loving home for her two daughters; and
WHEREAS, Eventually, Carol Grand ended her dental hygiene profession
and began an in-home stationary and invitation business called Grand
Times, which she ran until her retirement; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by
individuals for the benefit of others which David and Carol Grand have
displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their two daughters, Kerri
(Steven) and Jennifer (Daniel), and four grandchildren, Emily, Matthew,
Hannah and Taylor, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of their
lives and rejoice in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
David and Carol Grand, that future generations may know and appreciate
their admirable character, their many benevolent deeds, and their
respect and esteem in which they are held by their peers; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor David and Carol Grand upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Pillars of the Community Award by the Sidney Albert
Albany Jewish Community Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to David and Carol Grand.
