HONORING W. David Ross upon the occasion of his
induction into the Lake View Volunteer Fire
Department Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and Nation are inspired by and
indebted to our noble volunteer firefighters who exhibit courage and
bravery every day in the course of their duties; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer Firefighters exemplify the power of human
compassion and the strength of the American spirit through actions of
the most heroic magnitude; their sacrifices and their selfless
dedication merit tribute and recognition by all citizens of this great
country; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor W. David
Ross upon the occasion of his induction into the Lake View Volunteer
Fire Department Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious recognition is bestowed upon an individual
who has demonstrated dedication to preserving the history of the
Department, promote its values and celebrates the excellence of a
member; and
WHEREAS, W. David Ross joined the Lake View Volunteer Fire
Department in October of 1985; throughout his more than 30 years of
service, he held several positions within the Department including
Assistant Chief and several other line positions; and
WHEREAS, An Advanced EMT, W. David Ross has shared his skills and
knowledge with the Lake View Volunteer Fire Department, allowing the EMS
Squad to bring a higher level of care to the community; and
WHEREAS, For over three decades, W. David Ross has been a dynamic
and vital member of the Lake View Volunteer Fire Department; he was
named a Top Responder several times, and was instrumental in starting
the Junior Fire Department, prior to it becoming an Explorer Post; and
WHEREAS, In his role as Department Historian, W. David Ross worked
extensively on the 75th Anniversary committee and helped organize the
Department's history book; and
WHEREAS, W. David Ross has also been an integral part of the Fire
Association administration where he has served as both the Financial
Secretary and Treasurer; in this capacity, he streamlined the accounting
system, making it easier to track and monitor purchases and payment
processing; and
WHEREAS, From 1998-2015, W. David Ross was a member of the Board of
Commissioners; well-respected by his fellow commissioners, he was
appointed to the title of Deputy Chairman; in this role, he was
responsible for overseeing Station No. 2 and worked extensively on
updating the SOPs and SOGs of the Department; and
WHEREAS, W. David Ross enjoys helping his co-workers, and is always
ready to lend a helping hand, whether its fixing the fire escape, the
pavilion, or the antique truck storage garage; and
WHEREAS, Firefighters unwaveringly serve our great State with pride,
valor, and integrity; these respected volunteers are often the first to
respond to an emergency, whether the emergency is a fire, transportation
accident, natural disaster, act of terrorism, medical crisis, or spill
of hazardous materials; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
W. David Ross is such a firefighter; throughout over 30 years of devoted
service to the Lake View Volunteer Fire Department, this volunteer
heroically performed, above and beyond the call of duty, those
responsibilities which define the task of fire protection; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor W. David Ross upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after 30 years of dedicated service to the Lake View
Volunteer Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to W. David Ross.
