COMMENDING Victoria Siegel upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by Saint
Gertrude's Church on February 18, 2017
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Victoria
Siegel upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
Saint Gertrude's Church, to be celebrated at its Dinner Dance on
Saturday, February 18, 2017, at The Crescent Beach Club in Bayville, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Saint Gertrude's Church began as a mission church in 1905;
two years later, a priest from St. Dominic's in Oyster Bay, New York,
was assigned to lead the church during the summer months; today, the
Church is home to parishioners from Bayville, Locust Valley, Centre
Island, and Lattingtown, New York; and
WHEREAS, Victoria Siegel has been a devoted member of Saint
Gertrude's Church for 50 years; she has held numerous leadership roles
including President of the Rosary Guild, Lector, co-Chairperson of the
Zeppole Booth at the Feast, and Chairperson of the Finance Board, the
Parish Council, and the Plant Sale; and
WHEREAS, Well-respected by her neighbors, Victoria Siegel was
elected to the esteemed role of Mayor of the Village of Bayville; in
this capacity, she was a member of the New York Conference of Mayors
Legislative and Environmental Committees; and
WHEREAS, A true public servant, this dynamic woman was also the
Chairperson of the Bayville Planning Board, President of the Nassau
County Village Officials Association, and President of Friends of
Bayville Free Library; and
WHEREAS, Determined to make her community safer and healthier,
Victoria Siegel was the co-Founder of the Community Response Team,
Director of the Brittle Diabetes Foundation, Director of Concerned
Citizens for Substance Abuse Prevention, and Chairperson of the
Committee to Save Glen Cove Hospital, as well as a member of the Glen
Cove Hospital Community Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Victoria Siegel served as a Den Mother for her
son's Boy Scouts Troop, and was a reporter for the Locust Valley Leader;
and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her loving husband, Edwin;
two devoted sons, Michael (Debbie) and Stephen (Lisa); and two
grandsons, Samuel and Jacob; all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
her life and rejoice in her accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Victoria Siegel has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend
individuals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and
commitment toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and
acting as role models of leadership to be emulated by both peers and
young people; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Victoria Siegel upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Saint Gertrude's Church on February 18, 2017; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Victoria Siegel.
