HONORING the University at Albany upon the
occasion of its designation as recipient of the 2016
Outstanding Community Partner Award by the Food
Pantries for the Capital District

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
the University at Albany upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Community Partner Award by the Food
Pantries for the Capital District, to be celebrated on October 6, 2016,
at Revolution Hall, Troy, New York; and

WHEREAS, The University at Albany has been a supporter of The Food
Pantries for the Capital District in a multitude of capacities, having
have been a key partner in the Filling the Gap: Food Pantry System,
which helps individuals in the community who are struggling to have
enough nutritious food for themselves and their family; and

WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed University has been instrumental
in the success of the Community Needs Assessment project, allowing The
Food Pantries for the Capital District to further map out and assess the
needs of the local community; and

WHEREAS, The University at Albany truly leads by example with
additional support through the School of Public Health, School of Social
Welfare, Rockefeller College, and the Alumni Association; and

WHEREAS, With 82,000 people considered food insecure in Albany,
Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties, the University at Albany is helping
The Food Pantries for the Capital District fight against hunger and turn
visions of new programming into a reality; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
institutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the University at Albany upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Community Partner Award by the Food
Pantries for the Capital District; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the University at Albany.
