CONGRATULATING the 1992 SUNY Sullivan Men's
Basketball Team upon the occasion of being inducted
into the SUNY Sullivan Athletics Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
individuals and teams whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an
enduring legacy in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the 1992 SUNY Sullivan Men's Basketball Team upon the
occasion of being inducted into the SUNY Sullivan Athletics Hall of
Fame; the team was recognized at an event which was held on November 12,
2016, during SUNY Sullivan's Homecoming Weekend; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Sullivan Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes those
individuals, who, through outstanding achievement in athletics or
service, have made lasting contributions to its sports program and the
overall community; and
WHEREAS, The 1992 SUNY Sullivan Men's Basketball Team were under the
guidance of Director of Athletics Michael F. McGuire and Head Coach
David F. Possinger; the team members included: Donald Taylor, Derick
Simmons, Steve Hodge, Elton Richardson, Cedric Pitt, Ralph DeJesus,
Jarvis Cromedy, Wilfred Cadiz, Charles Abel, Anthony Lynton, Reggie
Neville, and Terell Kelly; and
WHEREAS, The 1992 SUNY Sullivan Men's Basketball Team were inducted
into the SUNY Sullivan Athletics Hall of Fame for capturing the 1992
National Junior College Athletic Association's (NJCAA) Championship;
they beat Eastfield College by a score of 101-76 to win the title; and
WHEREAS, The NJCAA Men's Division III Basketball Championship
consists of eight teams playing over a three-day period in March to
determine a National Champion; the tournament field is made up of teams
that win either region or district championships that are required to
earn entry into the tournament; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as the members of the 1992 SUNY Sullivan
Men's Basketball Team provide a tremendous service to the future of our
State and Nation, inspiring generations of student-athletes in their
athletic journeys and ensuring their success in their future years; and
WHEREAS, The 1992 SUNY Sullivan Men's Basketball Team has clearly
been an inspiration to the youth of SUNY Sullivan, as well as to the
community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for
their impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and the 1992 SUNY Sullivan Men's Basketball Team has
clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the 1992 SUNY Sullivan Men's Basketball Team upon the
occasion of being inducted into the SUNY Sullivan Athletics Hall of
Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the 1992 SUNY Sullivan Men's Basketball Team.
