HONORING outgoing Chief Brian S. Waterson upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition
after more than 20 years of dedicated service to the
Port Washington Fire Department, Inc. on April 8,
2017
WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and Nation are inspired by and
indebted to our noble volunteer firefighters who exhibit courage and
bravery every day in the course of their duties; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer Firefighters exemplify the power of human
compassion and the strength of the American spirit through actions of
the most heroic magnitude; their sacrifices and their selfless
dedication merit tribute and recognition by all citizens of this great
country; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor outgoing
Chief Brian S. Waterson upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after more than 20 years of dedicated service to the Port
Washington Fire Department, Inc. to be celebrated at its Bi-Annual
Installation and Inspection Dinner on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the
Crescent Beach Club in Bayville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Brian S. Waterson joined the Port Washington Fire
Department on June 6, 1996; a natural born leader, he quickly rose
through the ranks holding numerous positions including Assistant
Engineer, Engineer, 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, Captain, 2nd
Assistant Chief, and 1st Assistant Chief; and
WHEREAS, In March of 2015, Brian S. Waterson was elected to the
esteemed title of Chief of the Department, a title he will hold until
his term ends in March of 2017; in addition to his leadership roles, he
was a vital member of the Road Runners Drill Team from 1996-2006; and
WHEREAS, For his dedicated and enthusiastic service to the Port
Washington Fire Department, Brian S. Waterson has been the recipient of
numerous awards and accolades including the 2007 New York State Assembly
Outstanding Service Award, the 2006 AH & L Extrication Award, and the
Nassau County Silver Medal of Valor, as well as many FMCO Awards; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Brian S. Waterson has been named one of the
Top 10 Responders every year since he joined the Department; and
WHEREAS, Brian S. Waterson's spirit of service to his fellow
citizens was truly demonstrated during the World Trade Center tragedy;
he was one of the firefighters who courageously responded to ground zero
to help the victims of this horrific act of terrorism; and
WHEREAS, Firefighters unwaveringly serve our great State with pride,
valor, and integrity; these respected volunteers are often the first to
respond to an emergency, whether the emergency is a fire, transportation
accident, natural disaster, act of terrorism, medical crisis, or spill
of hazardous materials; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
Brian S. Waterson is such a firefighter; throughout more than 20 years
of devoted service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and
beyond the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of
fire protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor outgoing Chief Brian S. Waterson upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition after more than 20 years of
dedicated service to the Port Washington Fire Department, Inc.; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to outgoing Chief Brian S. Waterson.
