COMMEMORATING the 30th Anniversary of the Halfmoon
Senior Center, and celebrating the 25th Anniversary
of its Building
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and a
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those organizations which provide essential care and support
services for elderly and disabled people, and serve to enhance the
quality of life for our loved ones; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Halfmoon Senior Center, and
celebrating the 25th Anniversary of its Building on Friday, May 12,
2017; and
WHEREAS, Founded on April 7, 1987, Halfmoon Seniors, Inc. met in the
Solar Town Hall and initiated Bill Tansey as the first President; Peter
Keyrouze, Vice President; Dorothy Bauer, Secretary; Mary Golden,
Treasurer, and Jud Morris, Chairman of the Building Fund; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of five years, the Halfmoon Seniors, Inc.
raised enough funds to build their own Senior Center; the building
dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony occurred on November 29, 1992;
and
WHEREAS, In this new building, the Halfmoon Seniors, Inc. were able
to include an exercise room, game room, library, craft room, director's
office, small meeting room and community room, as well as a kitchen; and
WHEREAS, An active part of their community, the Halfmoon Seniors,
Inc. participate in many events in the town, including Halfmoon Day,
Treats and Treasures, a bazaar they organize each fall and spring,
picnics, fashion shows and card parties; and
WHEREAS, The Halfmoon Senior Center offers a range of services and
activities to the local seniors such as ceramics, card stamping,
quilting, woodworking, bowling, jewelry making and yoga; they also offer
bingo, pool, shuffle board, poker and card playing; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Halfmoon Seniors, Inc. participate in day
trips to places including Irish and German Festivals and to Queensbury
to view its Christmas Tree decorations; they also take weeklong trips to
Niagara Falls, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania and the Finger Lakes; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of its Director, Eileen
Pettis, this vital organization truly enhances the overall quality of
life among the senior population and is an asset within the community it
so ably serves; and
WHEREAS, This significant milestone is an excellent opportunity to
recognize the special contributions of the Halfmoon Seniors, Inc. and
the dedicated individuals who strive to better the quality of life for
senior citizens in the community; and
WHEREAS, Organizations devoted to improving the quality of life for
others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and self-worth are
deserving of the highest praise and recognition; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Halfmoon Senior Center is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Halfmoon Senior Center, and
celebrating the 25th Anniversary of its Building; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Eileen Pettis, Director, Halfmoon Senior Center.
