CONGRATULATING Katherine Stackel upon the occasion
of being named a 2016 National Coach of the Year by
the National Federation of State High School
Associations

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
individuals of outstanding character within the State of New York who
are dedicated to developing character and sportsmanship in our
collegiate athletes; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Katherine Stackel upon the occasion of being named a 2016
National Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High
School Associations (NFHS); and

WHEREAS, Katherine Stackel was selected as one of just 22 National
Coaches of the Year by the NFHS, which has been honoring coaches since
1982; and

WHEREAS, Every year, the NFHS selects the top boys and girls varsity
coaches in 10 high school sports; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Stackel was the NFHS selection for Girls Soccer
National Coach of the Year for her accomplishments during the 2015-16
school year; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Stackel has been a girls soccer coach for 29
years, beginning her career in 1988 as an Assistant Coach at Copenhagen
High School, her alma mater; and

WHEREAS, She also served as Copenhagen Girls Varsity Soccer Coach
for 12 years before moving to Carthage High School to serve as Head
Coach of the boys soccer team for six years; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, Katherine Stackel returned to Copenhagen to once
again serve as the Varsity Girls Soccer Coach, subsequently leading the
Copenhagen Golden Knights to the New York State Class D Championship in
2015, the program's first championship since 1993; and

WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and Katherine Stackel and her outstanding athletes
have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Stackel's positive demeanor, selfless
commitment, and caring concern have contributed to her enduring success
as a coach and mentor, earning her the respect and admiration of her
community, her peers, and the athletes she has so ably coached; and

WHEREAS, With her unremitting commitment to the Copenhagen High
School Girls Soccer Team, Katherine Stackel justly deserves her

selection as National Coach of the Year by the National Federation of
State High School Associations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Katherine Stackel upon the occasion of being named a 2016
National Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High
School Associations; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Katherine Stackel.
