Senate Resolution No. 77

COMMENDING University at Albany upon the occasion
of hosting its 16th Annual Unity Dinner "All Under
One Sky" to be celebrated on December 1, 2016

WHEREAS, A great State is only as great as those institutions that
perform exemplary service on behalf of their community, whether through
unique achievement in professional or other endeavors, or simply through
a lifetime of good citizenship; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend University
at Albany upon the occasion of hosting its 16th Annual Unity Dinner "All
Under One Sky" to be celebrated on Thursday, December 1, 2016; and

WHEREAS, For more than 15 years, staff and students at University at
Albany have attended a unique event known as the Unity Dinner; and

WHEREAS, Unity Dinner is organized by the interfaith center, an
organization that brings students together for prayer, study and the
understanding of other faiths; and

WHEREAS, This year's event is sponsored by University at Albany
Interfaith Coalition, Cornerstone Protestant Campus Ministry, Hillel,
the Muslim Student Association, the Catholic Association, and the
Student Association Intercultural Affairs Office; and

WHEREAS, During Unity Dinner, students and staff participate in
various activities held by University at Albany's faith and cultural
organizations, which introduce them to the various customs observed; and

WHEREAS, As students prepare for late night sessions to study for
finals, Unity Dinner is an entertaining event with a purpose, and a
clear demonstration of the fact that our similarities vastly outnumber
our differences; this kind of understanding is certainly needed now more
than ever; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
associations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend University at Albany upon the occasion of hosting its 16th
Annual Unity Dinner "All Under One Sky" on December 1, 2016; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to University at Albany.
