COMMENDING the Brooklyn Chapter of the National
Association of Black Military Women upon the
occasion of its Installation on February 17, 2017

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
black women who have served in times of active conflict, as well as
those who have served in times of peace; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the
Brooklyn Chapter of the National Association of Black Military Women
upon the occasion of its Installation on Friday, February 17, 2017, at
Black Veterans for Social Justice in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, The National Association of Black Military Women (NABMW) is
an association of women located throughout the country who are veterans
or current members of the United States Armed Forces; and

WHEREAS, In 1976, NABMW was established by 21 women who served in
the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps' (WAAC) and Women's Army Corps (WAC)
during World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars; and

WHEREAS, During their initial meeting, the 21 women planned their
first reunion; for more than four decades, these meritorious women have
strived to tell HERSTORY; and

WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel
ensure our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of
democracy, and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the
world; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to pay the highest
tribute to the valiant service displayed by the black women of the
United States Armed Forces who bravely fought in the Civil War, the
Spanish-American War, the World Wars, the Korean War, the Vietnam War,
the Gulf War, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as other
minor conflicts during times of great crisis; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved with great respect and
reverent esteem, and, on behalf of all of the citizens of the Empire
State, to renew its tribute to the black women of New York State who so
courageously served their State and Nation in defense of freedom and
democracy; now, therefore, be it further

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Brooklyn Chapter of the National Association of Black
Military Women upon the occasion of its Installation on February 17,
2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Brooklyn Chapter of the National Association of Black
Military Women.
