COMMENDING Kevin Anderson upon the occasion of his
designation as Deputy Marshal of the 2017 Bay Ridge
St. Patrick's Day Parade

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Kevin Anderson upon the occasion of his designation as Deputy
Marshal of the 2017 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, to be celebrated
with a Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 4, 2017; and

WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this most prestigious appointment,
Kevin Anderson will march as Deputy Marshal of the 24th Annual Bay Ridge
St. Patrick's Day Parade down 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, on
Sunday, March 26, 2017; and

WHEREAS, The Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade is meant to
recognize and celebrate Irish culture, heritage and pride, for those who
have emigrated here from the Emerald Isle, the Irish-American community,
as well as those who are Irish in spirit; and

WHEREAS, The son of Gustave Anderson and Maureen Duggan Anderson,
Kevin Anderson can trace his roots back to County Wexford, Ireland on
his father's side and County Tipperary, Ireland on his mother's side;
however, both families ended up immigrating to St. John's and Chapel's
Cove, Newfoundland, Canada before ultimately settling in Bay Ridge,
Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, A life-long Bay Ridge resident, Kevin Anderson attended
Saint Patrick Roman Catholic School before graduating from Bishop Ford
Central Catholic High School in 1987; he enrolled in St. Francis College
and then transferred to College of Staten Island; and

WHEREAS, On April 14, 1991, Kevin Anderson fulfilled a lifelong
dream of becoming a member of the FDNY and was assigned to Ladder 114;
located in Sunset Park, L114, affectionately known as "Tally Ho," is
well known on the job as being an Irish house and this is well displayed
by numerous shamrocks on the fire truck; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Anderson has received 2 unit citations and the World
Trade Center Medal as he participated in the rescue of 33 civilians at a
3rd alarm fire; he is currently a member of the FDNY Ceremonial Unit and
is also the union delegate and senior man of Ladder 114; and

WHEREAS, A proud member of the Emerald, Vikings, and Holy Name
Fraternal organizations, Kevin Anderson has also been a member of the
Thomas Dongan Council of the Knights of Columbus since 1995; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to volunteerism,
Kevin Anderson has participated in numerous charity events including the

39-mile Avon NYC walk to fight breast cancer in memory of his beloved
sister Kerri; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Kristi, and their
two children, Connor and Anneliese, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and

WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Deputy Marshal for the Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade, Kevin Anderson embodies the spirit and the
cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and
Nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kevin Anderson upon the occasion of his designation as Deputy
Marshal of the 2017 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kevin Anderson.
