COMMENDING Reverend Monsignor Kieran E. Harrington
upon the occasion of his designation as Grand
Marshal of the 2017 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day
Parade

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Reverend Monsignor Kieran E. Harrington upon the occasion of his
designation as Grand Marshal of the 2017 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day
Parade, to be celebrated with a Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 4, 2017;
and

WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of this most prestigious appointment
Reverend Monsignor Kieran E. Harrington will have the honor of leading
the 24th Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade down 3rd Avenue in
Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday March 26, 2017; and

WHEREAS, The Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade is meant to
recognize and celebrate Irish culture, heritage and pride, for those who
have emigrated here from the Emerald Isle, the Irish-American community,
as well as those who are Irish in spirit; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Monsignor Kieran E. Harrington, V.E. has
served as Vicar for Communications for the Diocese of Brooklyn since
December of 2006; he is also the President and Chairman of the DeSales
Media Group, Inc., a full service media company; and

WHEREAS, Kieran E. Harrington graduated cum laude from St. John's
University with a degree in Philosophy; he holds a Masters of Divinity
degree from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, as well as a
Masters of Business Administration from the New York University Stern
School of Business; and

WHEREAS, Ordained a priest for the Diocese of Brooklyn on June 2,
2001, Kieran E. Harrington was elevated to the rank of Monsignor by His
Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on September 3, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Monsignor Kieran E. Harrington currently hosts "In The
Arena", a weekly series on WOR radio, with world-renowned guests,
intense debates and compelling interviews covering various topics and
social opinions from a Catholic cultural perspective; and

WHEREAS, In addition, he serves as Rector of the Co-Cathedral of St.
Joseph located in the Prospect Heights section of Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, Monsignor Kieran E. Harrington's family ancestry leads
straight back to Ireland; his mother is from Tubbercurry, County Sligo
and his paternal grandparent from Templemore, Tipperary and Abbeyleix,
County Laois; and


WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and

WHEREAS, A fitting choice for Grand Marshal for the Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade, Reverend Monsignor Kieran E. Harrington embodies
the spirit and the cherished ideals and values of Irish-Americans of
this great State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Reverend Monsignor Kieran E. Harrington upon the occasion of his
designation as Grand Marshal of the 2017 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day
Parade; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Reverend Monsignor Kieran E. Harrington.
