CONGRATULATING John Amoriell upon the occasion of
celebrating his 105th Birthday
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate John Amoriell upon the occasion of his 105th Birthday
celebrated on December 31, 2016; and
WHEREAS, John Amoriell was born on December 31, 1911, to Sam and
Mary (Maglione) Amoriell; he and his six brothers and sisters grew up in
a four-house tenement on Washington Street in Tupper Lake, New York; and
WHEREAS, John Amoriell left school before the fifth grade, and sold
berries for 10 to 25 cents to provide for himself and his family during
the Great Depression; and
WHEREAS, In 1937, John Amoriell married the former Mildred Exware,
and together the couple raised two children, Sam and Annette; in 2010,
the love of his life passed away at the age of 91; and
WHEREAS, In 1945, the Amoriells bought a home on Washington Street;
John lived there until he moved to Mercy Living Center in September of
2014; and
WHEREAS, For many years, John Amoriell was both a worker and machine
operator on the Adirondack Railroad; after the line closed, he went to
work on the main line, continuing a career which spanned approximately
36 years; and
WHEREAS, While he was working, John Amoriell and his wife were
privileged to be able to travel in a trailer provided by the railroad;
they visited small cities such as Utica, Amsterdam, Little Falls,
Herkimer, Schenectady, and Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, After his much deserved retirement in 1969, John Amoriell
relished hunting and fishing in the great outdoors until the age of 91;
and
WHEREAS, Today, John Amoriell reflects on his long and distinguished
life; he fondly remembers a beautiful life with his beloved wife and
family; he enjoys his new home at Mercy Living Center where he likes to
do his bookwork, watch television and occasionally visit with family and
friends; and
WHEREAS, John Amoriell, with his zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, John Amoriell has enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate John Amoriell upon the occasion of celebrating his 105th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John Amoriell.
