COMMENDING YES Community Counseling Center upon
the occasion of celebrating its 40th Anniversary and
paying tribute to this year's honorees
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend YES Community Counseling Center upon the occasion of celebrating
its 40th Anniversary and paying tribute to this year's honorees to be
celebrated at its 40th Anniversary Gala on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in
Woodbury, New York; and
WHEREAS, YES Community Counseling Center is a community-based,
non-profit organization that has been serving the residents of
southeastern Nassau County since 1977, providing school-based social
work, counseling, and drug and alcohol treatment as well as a wide
variety of other services; and
WHEREAS, As an organization looking to make a difference, YES
Community Counseling Center's goal is to increase awareness about
personal and community issues, prevent and treat substance abuse, and
promote healthy families and a safe community; to ensure this, they tend
to those who are struggling with issues including domestic violence,
chemical dependency, family conflict, sexual abuse, and marital and peer
difficulties, as well as bereavement and health concerns; and
WHEREAS, In honor of its auspicious milestone, YES Community
Counseling Center has chosen several outstanding members of the
community to receive special recognition including Capital One Bank,
Rene Fiechter, and the Genovese family; and
WHEREAS, Capital One Bank has been a partner with the Commerce Plaza
program for over a decade, affording them the opportunity to transform
the program for children throughout Long Island; due to this generous
member, thousands of youths are better prepared and more financially
literate due to the Bank's commitment to their vocational futures; and
WHEREAS, Rene Fiechter is the Assistant District Attorney and
Director of Community Affairs within the Nassau County District
Attorney's office; in his role as Chairperson for the Nassau County
Heroin Prevention Task Force, he has worked tirelessly with both YES
Community Counseling Center and the non-profit sector to develop and
encourage others to act passionately and fearlessly to combat the
current drug epidemic; and
WHEREAS, The Genovese family have been lifelong members of its
community; Dolores and Anthony Genovese's volunteerism and charitable
work serve as an inspiration to all who know and respect them; their son
Richard Genovese has worked with YES Community Counseling Center for
many years, creating the Take Me Out to the Ballgame Foundation, making
it possible for hundreds of children and families to experience joy and
laughter; he also sponsored both YES Community Counseling Center's
Breakfast with Santa and Christmas in April events and YES Community
Counseling Center's food pantry; and
WHEREAS, Organizations and individuals, devoted to improving the
quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and
self-worth are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend YES Community Counseling Center upon the occasion of celebrating
its 40th Anniversary and paying tribute to this year's honorees; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to YES Community Counseling Center, Capital One Bank, Rene
Fiechter and the Genovese family.
