HONORING Mary Ellen Matise upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Martha
Washington Woman of History Award by the Washington
Headquarters State Historic Site

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who seek to bring recognition to historical
places within the State of New York, and in doing so, help to ensure
that the complete history of our State and Nation is preserved and
shared with present generations of citizens; and

WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Matise has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mary Ellen
Matise upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Martha
Washington Woman of History Award by the Washington Headquarters State
Historic Site to be celebrated on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at the Site in
Newburgh, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious award is presented each year to a woman who
has contributed to the history of the Hudson Valley through education,
promotion or preservation; and

WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Matise, the Village of Walden's Historian, is
well-known for presenting history programs to historical societies and
groups; she also frequently contributes various historical articles to
the Wallkill Valley Times; and

WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Matise has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to her profession, Mary Ellen Matise is a
founding member of the Coldenham Preservation and Historical Society,
and a mentor for the Walden Elementary History Club; in addition, she is
a past President of the Walden Women's Club; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Mary Ellen Matise has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Mary Ellen Matise has
displayed throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity
to express its highest admiration for Mary Ellen Matise, for bringing
proper attention to places and times which merit recognition in the
grand panorama of the history of our State and Nation; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mary Ellen Matise upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Martha Washington Woman of History Award by the
Washington Headquarters State Historic Site; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mary Ellen Matise.
