COMMEMORATING the 95th Anniversary of the Junior
League of Orange County, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that the quality
and character of life in this great Empire State is greatly enriched by
the faithful and diligent work of those organizations which serve to
meet the needs of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 95th Anniversary of the Junior League of Orange County,
Inc. at its Anniversary Gala on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at The
Powelton Club, Newburgh, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Orange County, New York is part of an
international organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism,
developing the potential of women, and improving the community through
the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1916, the Junior Welfare League was founded to
develop aid to charitable community agencies; by September of that year,
the League was organized with officers and 16 charter members; and

WHEREAS, In 1922, the Junior Welfare League was invited to join the
Association of Junior Leagues of America, changing its name to the
Junior League of Newburgh, Inc.; six years later, they introduced the
Middletown Unit of the Junior League of Newburgh; by 1973, the Junior
League of Newburgh and the Middletown Unit combined to form the Junior
League of Orange County New York, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, With the addition of multiple locations, the Junior Welfare
League was able to make themselves more available in a larger
population, allowing the women to train every member to be an efficient
volunteer, find and fulfill community needs, support projects through
volunteer services and financial aid and educate every League member to
be a responsible citizen; and

WHEREAS, For the past 95 years, the Junior League of Orange County
New York has served the needs of the community while developing the
potential of women through innovative projects which provide free
education, access to career and family support resources, and skill
building workshops with the goal of inspiring each woman, to maximize
her potential and build a strong foundation for her future; and

WHEREAS, In the past they have been involved in numerous projects
such as blood drives, Habitat for Humanity, Memory Book Project, Dress
for Success, and Unstuff the Bus, as well as Woman-to-Woman; and

WHEREAS, Today, the Junior League of Orange County have focused on
numerous issues within their community including pediatric obesity,
literacy, education, health and nutrition, violence against women and
alcoholism; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
organizations which unselfishly devote their energy, talent and
thoughtful care on behalf of improving the quality and dignity of life
in the community, are worthy and due full praise and recognition for
their noble and dedicated efforts; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 95th Anniversary of the Junior League of Orange County,
Inc.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Junior League of Orange County, Inc.
