CONGRATULATING Olean High School Head Coach Jeff
Anastasia upon the occasion of recording the most
wins in Western New York Boys' Basketball History

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can only be
achieved through strenuous practice, team play, and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Olean High School Varsity Boys' Head Coach Jeff Anastasia
upon the occasion of recording the most wins in Western New York boys'
basketball history; on January 10, 2017, he celebrated a milestone of
545 wins, cementing his legacy in state history; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Anastasia was born on February 15, 1959, in Olean, New
York, to loving parents Ron and Marlene; he graduated from Olean High
School in 1977, where he would begin coaching basketball in 1983; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Anastasia is currently a K-3 Physical Education
Teacher in the Olean City School District, a job he has thoroughly
enjoyed over the past 34 years; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Anastasia has proven over his many years to be a great
leader and mentor to the countless students who have participated in the
Olean High School basketball program; these students have walked away
with a deeper appreciation for the sport and carry this in their
everyday life; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Anastasia's accomplishments are truly outstanding; he
has been the recipient of many coaching awards including: the Bob
Johnson Memorial Cattaraugus County Boys Coach of the Year Award, the
Thomas K. Oakley Big 30 Coach of the Year Award, the BCANY Section VI
Coach of the Year, the BCANY-New Balance N.Y.S. Boys Coach of the Year,
the BCANY Coach of the Year Class B, The BCANY CCAA League Coach of the
Year, the BCANY Service Award for 25 years of coaching, the Centercourt
Coach of the Year and the Section VI Coaches Sportsmanship Award; he has
also received BCANY Recognition Awards for 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500
victories in addition to being inducted into the Olean High School Wall
of Fame, the Cattaraugus Hall of Fame, and the New York State Basketball
Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Anastasia has also been significantly involved in
making other contributions to the sport of basketball; he has organized
and directed the city summer recreation basketball program, and was
instrumental in starting the Olean High School Tip-Off Tournament which
began in 1990, and continues to this day; for his service to the
community, he has received the Olean Service to Youth Award, the Good
News Award, and the Community Foundation Friends of the Foundation
Honoree Award; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, he has been surrounded by great and
talented varsity athletes, as well as tremendous assistant coaches;

reaching the historic 545 wins, breaking league records and becoming
state champions, would not have been made possible without the steadfast
dedication of all involved and this extends to his devoted family; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Anastasia is a loving husband to his wife, Barbara; he
is the proud father of his son, Michael, and daughter, Danielle, and
stepfather to Jeff and Mike Shaw; he has been further blessed with two
grandchildren, Sydney and Jakarri Shaw; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Anastasia enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare
time; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have achieved notable success in this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Olean High School Head Coach Jeff Anastasia upon the
occasion of recording the most wins in Western New York boys' basketball
history; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jeff Anastasia.
