HONORING Carl G. French upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2018 Commitment to
Community Award by the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce
on April 22, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Carl G. French upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2018 Commitment to Community Award by the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce,
to be celebrated at its annual dinner on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the
Unadilla First United Methodist Church in Unadilla, New York; and
WHEREAS, A native of Unadilla, Carl G. French proudly served his
country as a member of the United States Army from 1963-1969; dedicated
to his fellow veterans, he worked with the mayor to establish the
Unadilla Veterans Memorial to pay homage to the village's soldiers; and
WHEREAS, Since 2012, Carl G. French has held the position of village
code enforcer; he has also served with the Unadilla and Sidney Police
Departments, as bailiff for the Unadilla Town Court, and in various
capacities with the Unadilla Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his 55-year career with the Unadilla Fire
Department, Carl G. French has held numerous positions including first
and second assistant fire chief, and fire chief, a title he held for 13
years; in the early 2000s, he was instrumental in moving the Unadilla
Fire Department to its current location on Clifton Street; and
WHEREAS, Carl G. French has also served as lieutenant of the fire
police, and president of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs
and the Firemen's Association of the State of New York; since 1983, he
has held the position of Otsego County fire department coordinator for
the county's southern region; and
WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to the
Unadilla Fire Department, Carl G. French was the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades including the 1990 Gary Goodier Service Award in
1990, and a certificate of appreciation by the Office of Fire Prevention
and Control; in addition, he was named Otsego County's 2006 Fireman of
the Year; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, Carl G. French has
volunteered for many years as an Otsego County judge of various
community parades; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Joan, their two
daughters, Tammy Steinberg and Shelly Stanton, and three grandchildren,
Danielle, Tommy and Tory, all of whom have shown him love and support
and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carl G. French upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2018 Commitment to Community Award by the Unadilla Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Carl G. French.
