CONGRATULATING the Schroon Lake Elementary School
Archery Team upon the occasion of capturing first
place in the New York State National Archery in the
Schools Tournament on March 9, 2018
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Schroon Lake Elementary School Archery Team upon the
occasion of capturing first place in the New York State National Archery
in the Schools Tournament on Friday, March 9, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Hosted by the New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation (DEC), the 10th Annual New York National Archery in the
Schools (NASP) Tournament was held at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in
Utica, New York; and
WHEREAS, With this monumental win, the Schroon Lake Elementary
School Archery Team have qualified to compete and represent New York
State at the National NASP Tournament from May 10-12, 2018, in
Louisville, Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, This year, more than 485 students from 25 school districts
attended this growing event; at the national level, 2.3 million students
participated in the program during the 2016-2017 school year; more than
13,000 schools in 47 states, Washington D.C., Canada, South Africa, New
Zealand, and Australia have adopted the program; and
WHEREAS, The NASP is a cooperative effort between conservation
agencies, school systems and private organizations to bring the sport of
archery to thousands of students across the state; it is designed to
engage students in the educational process and improve participation in
outdoor-type activities among students of all athletic abilities; and
WHEREAS, All of the outstanding athletes on the Schroon Lake
Elementary School Archery Team have clearly utilized dedication,
determination and teamwork in providing a lasting contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their school; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Schroon Lake Elementary School Archery
Team: Isabella Tyrrell, Caden Barry, Drake Belrose, Michael Botterbusch,
Sloan Clark, Julieana Conde, Ronan DesLauriers, Tristan Dick, Owen
Gillings, Elizabeth Grey, Austin Hartwell, Olivia Hartwell, Justice
Hurtado, Liliana Hurtado, Unique Kowal, Tristin McIntyre, Josiah
Melville, and Hannah Thompson upon the occasion of capturing first place
in the New York State National Archery in the Schools Tournament on
March 9, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Schroon Lake Elementary School Archery
Team.
