Assembly Resolution No. 1053

HONORING Dr. Riaz Lone upon the occasion of being
named the 2018 Citizen of the Years by the Sidney
Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, From time to time we take note of certain individuals whom
we wish to recognize for their valued contributions and to publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor longtime
local practitioner Dr. Riaz Lone upon the occasion of being named the
2018 Citizen of the Years by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce to be
celebrated at a dinner on Friday, June 1, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Riaz Lone, an internist formerly specializing in
gastroenterology, moved to the Village of Sidney in September of 1083;
he earned his medical degree from the University of Punjab and K.E.
Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, and today, his practice is part of
the Bassett Health Care Network; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Sabah, and their
two grown children, Atif and Saher, who have all shown him love and
support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, When his children were young, Dr. Riaz Lone was active in
several civic service groups and local organizations, including the
former Sidney Boys and Girls Club, now the Tri-Town Youth Club;
currently, his outreach efforts are focused on facilitating suicide and
narcotics addiction prevention; together with village officials, Dr.
Riaz Lone is developing plans for preventative programming; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Riaz Lone has intermittently served as the
Delaware County medical director since the early 1990s, and is now in
his third consecutive year as director; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Riaz Lone is an inspiration to many people, and his
dedication and commitment to the Village of Sidney have proven him to be
the epitome of true leadership; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that individuals
who exemplify a spirit of humanity should be celebrated for their noble
efforts on behalf of others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Riaz Lone upon the occasion of being named the 2018 Citizen of
the Years by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Riaz Lone.
