MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
May 5-12, 2018, as Osteogenesis Imperfecta Awareness
Week in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official weeks set aside to increase awareness of serious issues which
affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 5-12, 2018, as
Osteogenesis Imperfecta Awareness Week in the State of New York, in
conjunction with the observance of National Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Awareness Week; and

WHEREAS, Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as "brittle bone
disease," is a genetic disorder characterized by fragile bones that
break easily and affects a person from birth through his or her entire
lifetime; and

WHEREAS, As there is no cure for OI, increased funding for education
and research are necessary to help find more effective treatments and
increased public awareness is critical to support those afflicted with
this disorder and their families; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 5-12, 2018, as
Osteogenesis Imperfecta Awareness Week in the State of New York, in
conjunction with the observance of National Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Awareness Week, and to commit to supporting the Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Foundation's efforts to raise awareness of this rare and serious
disorder; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
