Assembly Resolution No. 1175

MOURNING the death of Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr.,
family man, civic servant, and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to publicly mourn the death
of those prominent citizens whose lifework and purposeful endeavors have
served to enrich and enhance the quality and character of life for
others in their community and the great State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr. of Lyons Falls, New York, died on
January 1, 2018, at the age of 81; and

WHEREAS, Roscoe "Rocky" Kent Fawcett, Jr. was born on November 8,
1936, to the late Roscoe K. Fawcett, Sr. and Marie Ann Formanek in
Minneapolis, Minnesota; and

WHEREAS, He was raised in Greenwich, Connecticut, where he was a
student at Greenwich Country Day School; after graduating from Taft
School in Watertown, Connecticut, Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr. attended
Middlebury College, and earned his bachelor's degree from the University
of Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, While a student at Penn State, Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr. was a
member of several clubs including the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Sphinx
Senior Honor Society, and the Kite and Key Society; he also founded the
college's ice hockey program of which he was Captain; and

WHEREAS, Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr. enjoyed a long and distinguished
career in advertising, marketing and publishing in New York City,
Williamstown, Massachusetts, and Los Angeles, California; throughout his
tenure, he served in various capacities such as Director of Development
and Alumni Relations for Miss Halls' School, Executive Vice President of
the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, Publisher of American
Fitness Magazine, Fund Raising Consultant for Putnam Indian Field
School, Board President of A World Fit for Kids, and Special Advisor on
the Governors Council of Physical Fitness and Sports in California, as
well as Reunion Chairman for Greenwich Country Day School and Taft
School; and

WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr. moved to Lyons
Falls, New York, where he quickly became a vital and treasured member of
his community; he was involved with the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce
and the Lyons Falls History Association, and held the titles of both
President and Vice President of Lyons Falls ALIVE, and Vestry for St.
Paul's Episcopal Church in Constableville; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr. served on the Boards of
Constable Hill, Cornell Cooperative Extension Lowville, High Falls
Senior Living, and Snowbelt Housing; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his daughter, Mary Sinclair Arguimbau,
Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr. is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Roscoe
Kent (Sharon) Fawcett III and Gavin Scott (Colleen) Fawcett; one

daughter, Dinah Fawcett Young; eight grandchildren, Andre, Terra, James
(Sarah), Elizabeth, Gavin, Benjamin, Gunnar, and Banks; one
great-grandchild, Lucas; and two brothers, Peter (Ann) Fawcett and
Stephen Fawcett; as well as numerous friends and colleagues who will
long cherish his memory; and

WHEREAS, Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr. will always be remembered for his
charm and great wit; he greeted everyone with a warm smile and always
had a great story to tell; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr. leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr., family man, civic servant,
and devoted member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Roscoe K. Fawcett, Jr.
