HONORING Mykenzie J. Huff upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2018 Youth of the
Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Western
Broome
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Mykenzie J. Huff upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2018 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Western
Broome; and
WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Club's highest honor, the Youth of the
Year Award, recognizes outstanding contributions to a club member's
family, school, and overall community, as well as their perseverance in
overcoming personal challenges and obstacles; these honorees are shining
examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls
Clubs; and
WHEREAS, Since she was a kindergartener, Mykenzie Jade Huff has been
a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Broome Family Center;
through the years, this pleasant young lady has made numerous and
lasting relationships with the compassionate staff members; and
WHEREAS, During a difficult time in her life, Mykenzie J. Huff knew
she could always count on her many friends at the Boys & Girls Club who
offered her a shoulder to cry on and a safe haven; during this time, she
began volunteering her time and energy to working with the younger
children at the Club, many of whom have experienced their own problems;
and
WHEREAS, Mykenzie J. Huff also ran the Club's Summer Lunch Program;
in this capacity, she made sure all of the young people were fed healthy
meals within government regulations; and
WHEREAS, Through the School Age Child Care Program, Mykenzie J. Huff
served as a gymnastics coach with some of the youngest children; she
learned how to balance being a friend and the person who enforces the
rules, ensuring everyone remains safe; and
WHEREAS, A superlative student, Mykenzie J. Huff is a member of the
National Honor Society and has excelled in four college level courses
while maintaining high honor roll status all fours years of high school;
she is an academic tutor and serves as a mentor for the younger students
in her school; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her academic prowess, Mykenzie J. Huff is a
three-sport athlete; she was a vital member of the varsity lacrosse
team, held the title of Captain of her varsity volleyball team, and not
only competed in gymnastics, but also served as coach; and
WHEREAS, Mykenzie J. Huff is also a participant of YES! Leads, a
program which educates elementary students about the dangers of drugs
and alcohol; and
WHEREAS, After graduating, Mykenzie J. Huff plans to major in
pre-medical studies at the University of Albany; one day, she hopes to
be a pediatrician; and
WHEREAS, Through her active involvement in the community and her
sincere dedication to others, Mykenzie J. Huff has become an exceptional
role model for others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mykenzie J. Huff upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Western
Broome; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mykenzie J. Huff.
