HONORING Frances K. Enwright upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2018 Senior
Citizen of the Year Award by the Oswego County
Office for the Aging
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Frances K.
Enwright upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2018
Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the Oswego County Office for the
Aging, to be recognized at its Older New Yorkers' Day Celebration on
Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the Egg, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, she has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in her unwavering service to her community and, consequently,
has been selected for this most prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, Frances K. Enwright has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Frances K. Enwright was born on June 21, 1926, to Italian
immigrants Frank and Vita Ruggio in Oswego, New York; her family lived
on East Van Buren Street in Oswego, which is walking distance from the
historic Fort Ontario; and
WHEREAS, At an early age, Francis K. Enwright's compassion for
others could be seen in her many acts of kindness; during World War II,
she would go to the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter, which housed
982 European refugees, and teach refugees English; forever moved by this
experience, she volunteers at the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter
Museum, a museum that is dedicated to telling the stories of the
refugees; and
WHEREAS, She met her future husband Leo F. Enwright Sr. at Taggert
Paper Mill and together they raised their seven children in Oswego; she
spent her career working at the City of Oswego Clerk's Office,
Cullinan's Ice Skating Rink and the Election Polls; and
WHEREAS, Frances K. Enwright truly embodies the principles and
ideals that make us proud to be Americans and has been a tireless
volunteer for many years; and
WHEREAS, She has actively participated in her local community as a
volunteer for St. Luke Health Services, Oswego Hospital, Safe Haven at
Fort Ontario, as a Bingo worker at St. Joseph's Church, and as a
coordinator for the Oswego County Blood Drive; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable individual is also active in the
Columbiettes, the St. Anne's Society, and the Red Hat Club; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Frances K. Enwright has
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Frances K. Enwright upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the 2018 Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the Oswego
County Office for the Aging; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Frances K. Enwright.
